FastNeura Inc. (Headquarters: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Shigehiro Minakuchi; hereinafter "FastNeura") gave a lecture titled "Co-evolution of Humans and AI via Neuroscience" at a project meeting of the XG Mobile Promotion Forum (XGMF).
FastNeura is a neurotech startup originating from the University of Tokyo, engaged in the research and development of technology that estimates human cognitive, emotional, and physical conditions using multimodal biological data such as brainwaves and heart rate, along with AI, and a bio-adaptive AI platform called "Sync OS" that connects these estimation results to environments, devices, AI agents, and more.
In this lecture, FastNeura introduced its technological vision for realizing environmental intelligence that understands human states and adapts to humans in an era where next-generation communication, materials, sensing, and AI are highly integrated.
Background of the Lecture
The XG Mobile Promotion Forum is a forum that promotes next-generation mobile communication technologies for the Beyond 5G/6G era, and engages in initiatives related to industry-academia-government collaboration and social implementation.
In the 6G/XG era, communication is expected to evolve beyond mere high-speed, high-capacity, low-latency infrastructure into a foundation for understanding and adapting to the states of humans and the environment in real-time, by connecting with AI, sensing, robotics, spatial control, wearables, material technologies, and more.
By connecting such next-generation communication infrastructure with neuroscience/biosensing technologies that capture human cognitive, emotional, and physical states, FastNeura aims to realize a society where humans and AI mutually understand each other and evolve together.
Lecture Content
Under the theme of "Co-evolution of Humans and AI via Neuroscience," this lecture introduced the concept of FastNeura's bio-adaptive AI platform "Sync OS" and its application possibilities in the XG/6G era.
Specifically, it explained a mechanism where AI agents, living environments, mobility, robots, wearable devices, etc., cooperate based on human states such as concentration, fatigue, stress, recovery, cognitive load, and emotional states, estimated from biological signals like brainwaves and heart rate.
Furthermore, it demonstrated that by combining low-latency, high-reliability data connectivity through next-generation communication, sensing technologies in the material/device layer, and AI-based state estimation/prediction technologies, it is possible to transition from the conventional interface of "humans operating machines" to an interface where "AI and the environment understand human states and adapt naturally."
Through such a vision, FastNeura aims for new social implementations in areas such as human augmentation, environmental intelligence, smart homes, mobility, industrial sites, healthcare, and AI agents.
Possibilities through Next-Generation Communication x Material Layer x Neuroscience
Japan has strengths in hardware and industrial infrastructure layers, including communication infrastructure, electronic components, materials, sensors, devices, robotics, and manufacturing technology.
FastNeura believes that by combining these strengths with neuroscience, biosignal analysis, and AI-based state estimation technologies, it can realize next-generation environmental intelligence that adapts to human states.
For example, in living environments, it is conceivable to have living spaces where lighting, air conditioning, sound, scent, curtains, beds, and notification systems naturally cooperate according to the resident's sleep, fatigue, stress, and recovery states.
In the mobility domain, it becomes possible to estimate the drowsiness, fatigue, tension, and stress of drivers and passengers, allowing the in-car environment, HMI, AI agents, and driving assistance systems to adapt accordingly.
In offices and industrial sites, by understanding the concentration, fatigue, cognitive load, and stress states of workers, it can contribute to human capital management, improved safety, and enhanced well-being by optimizing the work environment, break suggestions, information presentation, and team support.
FastNeura's Goal: "Co-evolution of Humans and AI"
FastNeura aims not for a society where AI replaces humans, but for co-evolution with AI that understands human states and expands human capabilities and potential.
Many current AI systems assume explicit input and instructions from humans. However, internal states such as human concentration, fatigue, stress, discomfort, recovery status, and fluctuations in decision-making cannot always be accurately verbalized by the individual.
FastNeura converts these internal states into a format that AI can understand through biological data such as brainwaves and heart rate, and is building a mechanism where AI agents, living environments, mobility, robots, and business systems naturally adapt according to human states.
Through this mechanism, AI will evolve beyond simply responding on a screen to become "environmental intelligence" that supports human concentration, recovery, peace of mind, safety, and creativity through lighting, air conditioning, sound, scent, devices, mobile spaces, and work environments.
FastNeura aims to realize a society that transforms the relationship between AI and humans from one of mere command and response to one of co-evolution based on mutual understanding and adaptation, naturally expanding human potential in everyday spaces.
Future Developments
Leveraging this lecture as an opportunity, FastNeura will further strengthen collaborations with companies and research institutions in areas such as XG/6G, next-generation communication, materials, sensors, devices, robotics, and AI agents.
Moving forward, we will promote joint research and demonstrations in a wide range of fields, including real-time state estimation combining next-generation communication and biosensing, environmental control in smart homes and mobility, improving safety and productivity in industrial sites, and bio-adaptive interfaces with AI agents.
We will work on the social implementation of human augmentation and environmental intelligence by combining Japan's strengths in next-generation communication, materials, devices, and manufacturing technology with FastNeura's neuroscience x AI technology.
