Figma, Inc. (headquartered in San Francisco, USA), a browser-based collaborative design and product development platform, has announced an AI agent built specifically for product design.
This agent is built directly into the multiplayer canvas and connects with critical design context. As teams reimagine how they develop for the future, Figma's agent-powered canvas provides a space to quickly discover and shape the right ideas for launching excellent products.
Figma's agents extend the working style teams are already familiar with. They are not just chat interfaces, but true collaborators. These agents are designed to deeply understand the Figma workflow, grasping components, design system logic, and the shared knowledge teams have built over time. Team members and agents can now work in parallel on the same canvas, building on each other's work in real-time.
These agents support product designers in generating and editing design layers, exploring ideas on the infinite canvas, automating repetitive tasks, and getting real-time feedback without interrupting their flow. By enabling control through text-based instructions, it also lowers barriers for product managers, engineers, marketers, and anyone else who wants to contribute to design and production. The agent is launching in Figma Design, with a rollout to other Figma products coming soon to support more processes in product development.
"As software development becomes easier, the most important thing is setting direction—deciding what to work on, how it functions, and what the experience should be. Teams can work with agents on the multiplayer canvas, test ideas, visualize all cases, and polish concepts together without getting bogged down in tedious work. Figma's agents are tools to support designers' creativity. I am very excited to see what you create next," said Loredana Crisan, Chief Design Officer at Figma.
Strengths of Figma's agents:
Figma-native: Leverages AI models specially trained to understand product design concepts, patterns, and Figma-specific use cases.
Direct integration into Figma's multiplayer canvas: Users can run multiple agents in parallel threads, seamlessly moving between AI assistance and manual operations without switching tools.
Connected to existing context, design systems, and canvas conversations: Automates tasks such as component settings, layout adjustments, and bulk edits without compromising quality.
By integrating agents with professional-grade design tools and necessary context, Figma provides the most powerful canvas for AI-native product design. These agents were developed in close collaboration with customers who participated in early access programs to meet specific user needs.
"I keep using Figma because it feels like I'm moving it with my own hands. I do almost all of my design ideation on the canvas, but now the agent takes me that final step. Once I connected the design library, I was able to move from design to code faster than I've ever experienced in any previous workflow," said Andy Madrick, Product Designer at Notion.
This launch complements Figma's existing AI workflows, such as Figma Make, which generates prototypes from prompts, and the latest features of the Figma Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Teams can brainstorm design layers with agents in Figma Design, bring those designs into Figma Make to convert them into code-based applications, and test their functionality.
Figma has also introduced functionality to connect with external coding agents through the Figma MCP server, enabling the construction of production-ready assets without losing critical design context.
