[Okinawa Craft x SDGs] BASIC AND ACCENT launches "mado" series tableware by RGC, turning scrap car windows into Ryukyu glass.

BASIC AND ACCENT, operated by Fil et Cucire Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Asaminami-ku, Hiroshima City; Representative Director: Toshifumi Shishido), has started selling items from the "mado" series, Ryukyu glass reborn from scrap car windows by RGC Co., Ltd. (Ryukyu Glass Village), at BASIC AND ACCENT stores nationwide and its online store.

Ryukyu Glass for the Future

The history of Ryukyu glass began in post-war Okinawa, where there was a shortage of goods, by melting and recycling empty bottles (waste bottles) consumed by U.S. forces stationed in Okinawa.

In modern Okinawa, which is a car-dependent society, attention has been turned to car windows from scrapped vehicles. Glass windows crushed and collected from scrapped vehicles by Okinawa's recycling company, Takunan Shoji, have been reborn into various products by the hands of Ryukyu glass artisans.

Color Palette Utilizing the Material

The two colors, a refreshing ice green and a calm smoky black, directly reuse the car's side windows as raw material.
