Fischer Pharmaceuticals, a manufacturer of ophthalmic products, has released the results of a survey on lid hygiene conducted among ophthalmologists.

According to the findings, 100% of the responding ophthalmologists stated that lid hygiene is important not only for treating diseases but also from a preventive perspective. This shows a complete consensus among physicians that lid hygiene is a daily preventive habit to avert eye diseases, rather than a reactive measure after symptoms appear.

Additionally, 91.3% of the ophthalmologists answered that incorporating eye hygiene habits, such as using eye care sheets, into daily life contributes to alleviating dry eye symptoms, stabilizing the tear film, and improving Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). Daily hygiene habits are recognized as an effective measure for dry eye-related conditions.

As a method for practicing lid hygiene, 95.7% of ophthalmologists supported dedicated eye care sheets as the most "sterile, effective, and convenient" method. The medically controlled sterility and the convenience for patients to practice easily at home were highly valued. Key benefits cited by physicians for recommending them included "easy and convenient" (79.2%), "sterilized and safe," and "preservative-free."

Furthermore, 91.3% of the ophthalmologists responded that performing lid hygiene before and after surgery can reduce the risk of postoperative complications, indicating its importance as part of perioperative management.

This survey revealed that lid hygiene is a fundamental practice that comprehensively supports eye health—including managing blepharitis, styes, dry eye, and MGD, and reducing post-operative risks—and that dedicated eye care sheets are highly supported by physicians as an effective tool for its implementation.
