Summer uniforms using Kurume Kasuri, harmonizing with the interior space of "Seven Stars in Kyushu"

Foo Tokyo (Foo Tokyo), a luxury lifestyle brand developed by Next Branders Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Masanori Kuwabara), has been appointed to produce the summer uniforms for JR Kyushu's cruise train "Seven Stars in Kyushu".

These uniforms were created in collaboration with Kyushu artisans, including Shimokawa Textile, a weaving mill in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture, under the design of Eiji Mitooka of Don Design Research Institute. They combine comfort and dignity, supporting the hospitality of "Seven Stars in Kyushu" where space, experience, and human movement are integrated, from the perspective of attire.

These uniforms are scheduled to be worn starting July 14, 2026 (Tue).

"Seven Stars in Kyushu" and Foo Tokyo's Initiatives

Foo Tokyo has previously designed and produced onboard amenities such as guest nightwear and blankets, as well as onboard sales products for "Seven Stars in Kyushu".

This time, they newly undertook the production of uniforms for the crew to wear during the summer.

The attire for the crew, who support the journey, requires not only a beautiful appearance but also comfort, ease of movement, and ease of daily maintenance to support long working hours. Foo Tokyo leveraged the brand's core values of "superior comfort" and "meticulous craftsmanship" to achieve a dignified look befitting "Seven Stars in Kyushu".

A garment embodying Kyushu's aesthetic, made with Kurume Kasuri

One of the summer uniform items, the Kurume Kasuri shirt, features Kurume Kasuri, a traditional craft passed down for over 220 years in the southern part of Fukuoka Prefecture.

The fabric is produced by Shimokawa Textile, a weaving mill in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Through the traditional pre-dyeing technique where threads are dyed before weaving, and meticulous weaving using a Toyoda automatic loom from 100 years ago, it creates a deep color unique to indigo dyeing and a soft texture.

The crew of "Seven Stars in Kyushu" are also guides for the journey through Kyushu. This Kurume Kasuri uniform was born from the desire to convey the charm of local culture and craftsmanship to guests through their attire.

A White Shirt Balancing Cool, Dry Wearability with a Refined Appearance

A white shirt designed for summer comfort

For the white shirt, a yarn combining high-quality cotton and high-performance polyester is used for the warp, and a special elastic polyester is used for the weft.

It quickly absorbs and releases sweat, maintaining a cool and dry feel even in summer. The high-density weave provides a refined appearance and moderate stretchability. It is also easy to maintain daily.

Instead of using polyurethane, which is common in stretch materials, elasticity is achieved through the material's inherent structure, designed to maintain a beautiful silhouette and comfortable fit for a long time.

Jacket, Pants, and Haori Supporting Elegant Movements

The jacket, pants, and haori are made from a knitted fabric with excellent lightness and ease of movement. They are designed to be less burdensome on the body during long working hours and support graceful movements during service.

The "face, interlock, back" three-layer structure provides high stretchability and resilience, balancing a beautiful silhouette with a comfortable, stress-free fit.

Furthermore, based on a sweat-absorbent and quick-drying polyester material, it maintains a smooth feel even when sweating. By using undyed fabric for both white and black, energy consumption associated with the dyeing process is reduced, reflecting a commitment to sustainable manufacturing.
