'Ordinary Love' is a live-action adaptation of the digital comic of the same name by Masaya Jiki, published by Number Nine. The original work has gained widespread resonance on social media, amassing approximately 400,000 followers across the author’s social platforms. The story delicately portrays the shifting emotions and evolving relationship between two men in their everyday lives.
The dual leads are played by Kosuke Furukawa and Ryoda Nagano of the dance-vocal group 'Genin wa Jibun ni Aru.' Furukawa portrays Ichiro Fumihara, a reserved supervisor who keeps love at arm’s length due to past experiences. Known for standout roles in 'Golden Kamuy: Hokkaido Tattooed Prisoner Struggle Arc' and 'Kamen Rider Geats,' Furukawa brings depth to a character grappling with inner conflict. As Kei Higashi, Fumihara’s subordinate, Nagano plays a young man who has accepted his asexuality and lives a quiet, routine life. Having established a strong presence as an actor through lead roles in the drama 'PUNKS△TRIANGLE' and the film '361 - White and Black -,' Nagano’s nuanced performance in this role is highly anticipated.
Fumihara and Higashi, who work as supervisor and subordinate, gradually become romantically involved despite both having kept emotional distance from love in the past. However, Fumihara struggles to believe Higashi’s feelings due to their age gap, societal pressures, and the reality of being a same-sex couple. As they face real-life challenges such as past relationships and coming out to family, the two awkward individuals slowly search for answers on their own terms.
The drama questions what it means to be 'ordinary' while portraying the difficulty of building a life with someone—and the genuine happiness that lies beyond. Audiences are invited to warmly follow the journey of these two imperfect lovers.
【Synopsis】
Fumihara and Higashi work as supervisor and subordinate at a company.
Fumihara, scarred by past trauma, avoids deep connections, believing a future with someone else is impossible, and protects his peaceful, solitary life. Higashi, meanwhile, identifies as asexual and has lived a life detached from romance.
Higashi, who respects Fumihara as a professional, begins spending time with him outside work, sparked by a shared love of movies. Though he never expected anything more, Fumihara, under the influence of alcohol, comes out as gay.
Higashi replies, 'I won’t pull away. Definitely.' This moment marks the beginning of their relationship. But one year later, Fumihara remains uncertain: 'Why would someone 12 years younger, and also a man, want to be with me?' 'Does he truly love me as a partner?'
The story explores the real-life barriers and emotional conflicts faced by same-sex couples—past relationships, coming out to family—and asks what 'ordinary' really means.
