Fuji Yakuhin Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture; President and CEO: Masayuki Takayanagi; hereinafter "Fuji Yakuhin"), a diversified pharmaceutical company engaged in drug development, manufacturing, and sales, signed a comprehensive collaboration agreement with Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture on Monday, July 13, 2026, regarding health promotion.
Fuji Yakuhin will collaborate with Suzaka City, primarily through its home-delivery pharmaceutical sales operations, to undertake the following five initiatives. The goal is to promote health and wellness among Suzaka citizens and contribute to regional revitalization. The agreement signing ceremony was held on the same day at Suzaka City Hall.
Representatives present: Mr. Kensaku Hashimoto, General Manager, Division 3 Sales Department, Home-Delivery Business Division, Fuji Yakuhin Co., Ltd.; and Mr. Masao Miki, Mayor of Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture.
【Five Areas of Collaboration】
(1) Disaster Prevention and Emergency Response Initiatives: Home-delivery pharmaceuticals provide the service of "peace of mind knowing medicine is always nearby." To prepare for emergencies, Fuji Yakuhin will support the installation of home-delivery pharmaceutical kits in public facilities during normal times. In the event of a disaster, these kits will be provided free of charge as emergency medical supplies (※1). Additionally, if evacuation centers are opened for extended periods, Fuji Yakuhin will provide medicines free of charge upon request from Suzaka City. Furthermore, leveraging its "itinerant sales" model—where sales representatives regularly visit customers—Fuji Yakuhin will assist in distributing disaster prevention flyers, participating in fire drills and disaster preparedness festivals, and disseminating disaster prevention information.
(2) Citizen Health Promotion Initiatives: Sales representatives for home-delivery pharmaceuticals are, by regulation of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, required to hold the qualification of Registered Salesperson (※2). Utilizing this system and their specialized knowledge, representatives will promote the proper use of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines during home visits, as well as raise awareness about seasonal diseases such as lifestyle-related illnesses and heatstroke, and distribute health information flyers. Additionally, Fuji Yakuhin will lend health education videos to city halls and public facilities, display health promotion posters in drugstores operated by the Fuji Yakuhin Group, and host health seminars led by pharmacists and registered dietitians from its drugstores and pharmacy clinics to contribute to citizen well-being.
(3) Regional Safety and Security Initiatives: Fuji Yakuhin will support safe and secure community living by participating in public health events, such as operating health measurement booths, and conducting health awareness activities for residents. Additionally, it will cooperate in reporting road damage and hazardous locations according to city guidelines, support child watch programs, and participate in road maintenance and community safety initiatives. Moreover, at its locally operated stores (American Drug Harukimachi, American Drug Sumizaka, American Drug Suzaka Garakuryu), Fuji Yakuhin will support the "Children’s 110” program and consider opening cooling shelters (designated heatstroke evacuation facilities) during periods when a “Heatstroke Special Alert” is issued, providing a safe refuge from extreme heat (※3).
(4) Elderly Monitoring and Support Initiatives: When sales representatives visit households with elderly residents and detect any abnormalities, they will cooperate in sharing information with Suzaka City and relevant agencies. In addition, during regular visits, representatives will encourage health checkups and preventive care for elderly residents. Pharmacists will also conduct outreach on proper medication use and the effective use of medication handbooks to support elderly health and preventive care. Furthermore, in accordance with city guidelines, representatives will assist in searching for missing elderly individuals during routine sales activities, contributing to a community where seniors can live safely and securely.
(5) Other Initiatives Necessary to Achieve Objectives: Beyond the above, Fuji Yakuhin and Suzaka City will consult and implement additional activities that contribute to regional revitalization and address local challenges.
(※1) Customers currently under contract for home-delivery pharmaceuticals have traditionally received free supplies if affected by a disaster.
(※2) A Registered Salesperson is a professional qualification required for the sale of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines. Holders possess specialized pharmaceutical knowledge and may sell general OTC medicines, excluding Class 1 medicines, which can only be sold by pharmacists.
(※3) Operating hours will follow regular store business hours.
【Background of the Agreement】
