This report provides a multifaceted analysis of finance app usage trends, including changes in usage time, age-specific behaviors, number of apps used, usage time slots, and the most popular apps by age group.

The analysis revealed that while overall smartphone usage time shows signs of plateauing, finance app usage time is on an upward trend.

Survey Method

Analysis conducted using Fuller's app market analysis service, 'App Ape,' based on data collected from approximately 400,000 Android devices in Japan.

Target Apps

Apps meeting all the following conditions were defined as 'finance apps' and included in the survey:

- Monthly Active Users (MAU) of 500 or more for Android apps during each month of the survey period

- Listed in the 'Finance' category on Google Play as of the end of each month during the survey period

Highlights from the 'Generational Finance App Usage Trends Report 2026'

① Finance app usage time is on the rise

From January 2025 to May 2026, while overall smartphone usage time remained largely unchanged, finance app usage time showed an overall upward trend, despite temporary fluctuations.

② Users aged 20+ use multiple finance apps, with over 30% using 6 or more

The report analyzed the number of finance apps used by age group among users who used at least one finance app in May 2026. Among teenagers, single-app usage was highest at 40.6%. In contrast, users aged 20 and above showed a strong tendency to use multiple finance apps.

Across all age groups aged 20+, over 30% used six or more apps, indicating widespread use of different apps for payments, budgeting, banking, and securities.

③ Usage peaks at noon and evening; users aged 60+ also active in the morning

When examining time-of-day usage rates, all age groups showed increased usage centered around 12:00 and 18:00.

While users aged 30–50 showed similar patterns, those aged 60+ had higher usage in the morning (8–11 AM) and lower usage in the evening compared to other age groups. Teenagers had the lowest usage rate throughout the day, highlighting generational differences in usage habits.
