Futaba Releases SCD500KS Steering Servo with Innovative 'Knuckle Servo' Design for 1/10 Scale Electric Drift Cars

In late April 2024, Futaba Corporation released the SCD500KS, a new steering servo for 1/10 scale electric drift cars. This product introduces a new type of steering system with a "knuckle servo" structure, which eliminates the need for tie-rods, a heavy component in the front wheel assembly.

Developed to reduce vehicle weight while transmitting steering inputs more directly to the road surface, this new servo enhances setup freedom and expands the enjoyment of drift driving.

### 1. "Knuckle Servo" - A Game-Changer in Steering Structure The SCD500KS adopts a knuckle servo structure where the servo itself is placed directly on the knuckle. This is fundamentally different from conventional tie-rod steering systems. This design achieves steering characteristics free from bump steer—unintended changes in tire direction caused by suspension movement. It also contributes to overall vehicle weight reduction by eliminating mechanical linkage parts.

Tune Steering Characteristics Wirelessly from the Transmitter By combining the SCD500KS with a compatible transmitter (T10PX/T10PXR/T10XCR/T6PV) and the GYD560 gyro, users can wirelessly perform Ackerman adjustments and set limits from the transmitter. Each of the two servos can be configured individually, and the Ackerman curve can be finely tuned across 12 points. This allows for detailed settings tailored to real driving conditions, supporting improved controllability during drifting.

Smooth Performance Even at Large Steering Angles Designed specifically as a steering servo for 1/10 scale electric 2WD drift cars, the SCD500KS ensures smooth operation even at large steering angles. At 6.0V, it delivers a speed of 0.130 sec/60° and a torque of 2.4 kgf·cm, providing the agile and stable steering response required for drift driving.
