Global Electronics Association Announces the Launch of the 'Global Electronics Policy Council' to Unify Industry on Trade, Investment, and Supply Chain Policy

The Global Electronics Association has announced the establishment of the 'Global Electronics Policy Council' (GEPC), a new organization dedicated to advancing a unified policy agenda across major regions of the electronics supply chain. Built on the foundation of nearly 70 years of advocacy by the association, the GEPC provides the first-ever formal platform for the entire value chain—including PCB manufacturers, EMS providers, OEMs, semiconductor suppliers, wire harness companies, and advanced packaging firms—to coordinate and engage with governments.

The GEPC was established amid mounting policy pressures, such as fluctuating tariffs, export controls, and increased domestic investment requirements. Research by the Global Electronics Association highlights the urgency: global electronics trade reached $4.5 trillion in 2023, and the industry’s supply chain is more globally interdependent than any other. Thomas Cetta, Senior Vice President at Jabil and Chair of the GEPC, stated, "This environment cannot be navigated by any single company or country alone. The GEPC provides the framework and discipline for the industry to speak with one voice on critical issues, enabling dialogue with governments based on credibility and accountability."

Unlike informal coalitions, the GEPC operates under formal bylaws and clear leadership, with regional execution structures covering North America, Europe, East Asia, and India/Southeast Asia. Founding members include AT&S, Flex, Jabil, Plexus, TSMC, and TTM Technologies, intentionally balanced to cover the entire value chain.

The council’s advocacy will center on five priorities based on the association’s 2026 policy agenda: ensuring predictable access to global markets, investing in domestic manufacturing capacity and production, building a robust talent pipeline, promoting industry-led technical and sustainability standards alongside regulatory alignment, and accelerating technical leadership through collaborative R&D. Regional councils will implement these initiatives based on this global framework.
