GlobalFoundries (Nasdaq: GFS, 'GF') announced today the completion of its acquisition of Synopsys' ARC processor IP solutions business. With this acquisition, GF has established itself as a technology partner providing end-to-end solutions from software to silicon, specifically designed for Physical AI, through the integration of MIPS. The combination of MIPS and ARC enables the provision of RISC-V processor IP, software, custom silicon, and advanced manufacturing as a single solution. Furthermore, the addition of world-class talent in the processor and AI fields further strengthens GF's engineering capabilities, accelerating innovation.

Sameer Wasson, CEO of MIPS under GF, stated, 'Physical AI is driving a tighter integration of computing, software, and process technology, and customers need a partner that provides comprehensive support in all three. With the integration of MIPS and ARC, GlobalFoundries provides the necessary software, IP, and custom silicon capabilities to build differentiated, application-specific solutions in fields such as automotive, industrial robotics, and embedded computing. This allows us to engage throughout the entire design cycle as a total technology partner.'

Agentic AI is rapidly expanding beyond data centers into the real world, creating new Physical AI and autonomous platforms ranging from automotive radar and ADAS to industrial robots, smart factories, and next-generation IoT devices. These systems require real-time execution of 'sensing,' 'judging,' 'acting,' and 'communicating' under strict power constraints and low-latency requirements. Consequently, differentiated silicon that includes computing, AI acceleration, sensing, and connectivity is the key to performance improvement and adoption.

Thomas Schneid of Infineon stated, 'As real-time and AI-driven automotive and industrial systems rapidly advance, we need a technology partner that can integrate standard-based IP and optimized silicon design at scale, while providing the supply stability the industry is demanding. By combining MIPS, ARC processor IP, and GlobalFoundries' manufacturing scale, we gain a robust end-to-end foundation, providing a base for companies aiming to build differentiated, low-power solutions for next-generation intelligent systems.'

With the completion of this transaction, Synopsys' ARC processor IP business will be integrated into GF's expanding Physical AI product portfolio as part of MIPS. The integration of MIPS and ARC forms a world-class RISC-V processor IP suite covering high-performance, mid-range, and ultra-low-power computing and AI cores. This is supported by a global ecosystem consisting of over 150 patents and more than 300 IP customers. The acquired product line includes 'ASIP Designer' and 'ASIP Programmer,' tools for developing application-specific instruction set processor (ASIP) development, enabling customers to design and program custom processors optimized for their respective workloads. Furthermore, by combining GF's design support, custom silicon services, advanced software tools, and flexible global manufacturing structure, companies gain a partner that can provide everything from architecture to silicon as a one-stop solution.
