Goodpatch Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Hisashi Tsuchiya, hereinafter "Goodpatch"), which operates the designer-specialized career support service "ReDesigner," has launched "The Designers' Turn 2026," a project focused on the careers and potential of designers in the AI era.
◾️ Summary
- ReDesigner has launched "The Designers' Turn 2026," a project themed "AI's Potential as a Turning Point for Designers," which addresses the careers and potential of designers in the AI era from various angles.
- Amidst the rapid evolution of generative AI causing significant changes for both companies and designers, this project provides a platform to re-examine the role of designers from multiple perspectives.
- From July to August 2026, the project will include the release of a research report on "Design x AI x Career," online/offline events, and problem-solving programs in collaboration with companies.
◾️ Background
The rapid evolution and widespread adoption of generative AI are significantly changing the environment surrounding designers.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' "Information and Communications White Paper 2025," the utilization rate of generative AI among individuals in Japan has grown approximately threefold compared to FY2023, reaching 26.7%. Furthermore, 49.7% of companies are formulating policies for AI utilization, clearly indicating the rapid penetration of AI among both individuals and corporations (※). Tools that can generate UI designs and prototypes simply by issuing natural language commands, such as Figma Make, Google Stitch, and Claude Design, are expected to be released sequentially from 2025 to 2026, altering the fundamental assumptions of design production.
Since its founding in 2011, Goodpatch has built its business alongside designers. In 2018, it launched "ReDesigner," a designer-specialized career support service, based on the concept of "career support that only a design company can provide." The platform has grown to over 25,000 registered designers and over 1,000 contracting companies as of July 2026, by establishing a support system where career designers, who understand the essence of design and companies' design investment and hiring needs, work closely with individual designers and companies, and by developing a direct recruiting system specialized for designer job changes and hiring. To date, over 2,500 designers have participated in career consultations, accumulating support that goes beyond simply matching designers with companies to deeply engaging with designers' careers.
Through this, it has become clear that the recent advancements in generative AI are causing significant upheaval and a period of confusion for both companies and designers. While some view "generative AI as an opportunity to broaden their horizons," many designers are experiencing anxiety, confusion, and fatigue, particularly regarding the changing premises of design production, on-site shifts, and future careers. Therefore, ReDesigner has launched "The Designers' Turn 2026" with the belief that by creating "a space to face and re-examine the role of designers from various angles," it can help overcome this period of confusion and provide a turning point for taking the next step.

◾️ What is "The Designers' Turn 2026"?
"The Designers' Turn 2026," themed "AI's Potential as a Turning Point for Designers," will release and host the following four research reports, events, and programs on a special website:
1. Confirming Your Current Position | AI Design Databook (Report scheduled for release on August 7, 2026)
This report will present quantitative data on "the environment surrounding AI and designers" based on surveys of ReDesigner registered designers and companies utilizing ReDesigner. It will provide insights into the current reality of AI utilization among designers and changes in the designer recruitment market, including AI utilization skills sought in the designer recruitment market, demand for AI talent, salaries, hiring difficulty, and designers' own awareness. It can be used by designers as a starting point to understand their current position, and by companies as a source of information for designing designer recruitment plans and fostering designers who can thrive within their organizations.
2. Facing Emotions | After Hours (Event to be held on July 29, 2026 / Goodpatch Headquarters)
An offline event will be held at Goodpatch headquarters (Tokyo, Shibuya) for designers to discuss what they have valued, what they want to continue valuing, and what they do not want to lose in the AI era. This event will include expectations, anxieties, and uncertainties unique to this era.
3. Broadening Perspectives | AI Forward Day (Event to be held on August 7, 2026 / Online)
An online event will feature companies that are actively hiring designers in the AI era. Through cross-talk sessions on AI utilization cases in companies and changes in design organizations, participants can gain hints for assessing their future careers.
4. Stepping into Possibilities | Design Challenge with AI (Program scheduled to start on August 7, 2026)
A practical program where participants tackle problem-solving using AI for challenges provided by companies. Upon submitting their solutions, they will receive feedback from the company's designers. Through problem-solving, participants can gain a realistic understanding of their own potential and strengths, as well as how companies are integrating AI into their design processes and how they are approaching it.
Participation in each event and program is possible individually. For details and registration, please refer to the "The Designers' Turn 2026" special website. "The Designers' Turn 2026" Special Website
Comment from ReDesigner Business Lead
The rise of AI is significantly changing how designers work and their career perspectives. While many designers view AI's evolution positively, a widespread sense of confusion and anxiety about the changes is common. Although discussions on utilization cases and productivity are active, opportunities to address individual designers' career development and value shifts are not yet sufficient. We hope that "The Designers' Turn 2026," through its data, events, and practical programs, will become a platform for directly confronting the careers and potential of designers in the AI era, and serve as a movement for taking new steps forward.
