Green Carbon, a developer of large-scale nature-based carbon credit projects, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to explore the potential of Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) in Thailand's agricultural and rice farming sectors.

This MOU serves as a framework for cooperation to exchange knowledge on scientific verification, environmental safety, and applicability in the agricultural sector, combining GIZ's insights on climate-smart agriculture in Thailand with Green Carbon's regional experience across Asia.

It should be noted that this MOU is intended for knowledge exchange and does not imply immediate carbon credit generation or commercial project implementation.

◆ Background and Objectives GIZ is working in Thailand through the GCF-supported "Thai Rice" project to enhance farmer resilience and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Through this partnership, Green Carbon will contribute its expertise in nature-based solutions to carefully evaluate the impacts of ERW on soil health and refine Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) methodologies.

◆ Decarbonization Challenges in Thai Agriculture Reducing methane emissions from rice paddies and maintaining soil health are critical challenges in Thailand. Green Carbon has been promoting Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) irrigation to reduce methane, and ERW is expected to serve as a promising new carbon removal approach.
