KADOKAWA Corporation, in collaboration with Kadokawa Media House, will host the 'Touch! Shoot! Amaze! Interactive Beetle and Stag Beetle Exhibition in Tokorozawa Sakura Town 2026 Summer' on intermittent dates from July 18 to August 16, 2026, in Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture.
Following its popularity last year, this event returns for the summer vacation, now bigger and better. A large insect enclosure will be set up, allowing visitors to directly interact with approximately 160 domestic beetles and stag beetles, including the Dorcus hopei binodulosus. The exhibition will also feature about 15 species of popular live insects from Japan and overseas, such as the Hercules and Neptune beetles.
The specimen display is also extensive, with over 100 types of real specimens from larva to adult, including the 'Rojas Sinuosus Stag Beetle' from Peru, which was just certified as a new species in September 2025, and the Caucasus beetle. These valuable specimens are provided in cooperation with Hanataki Natural Arts Co., Ltd.
Furthermore, there will be a photo corner where visitors can take a commemorative picture with either the highly popular Hercules beetle or the Phalacrognathus muelleri. At the merchandise corner, items such as a 'Hercules Beetle Larva Kit,' insect '3D Keychains,' the recently trending 'edible insects,' and KADOKAWA's educational book 'Kadokawa's Collectible Encyclopedia GET! Insects' will be available for purchase.
A new special project, the 'Let's Make an Insect Specimen!' workshop, will be held exclusively on Saturday, July 18 and 25. This class, where participants can create their own unique specimen, will be held three times a day with a capacity of 25 people each, lasting about 90 minutes. The participation fee is 3,000 yen (tax included), and a separate admission ticket to the insect exhibition is required. Tickets will be sold in advance on a dedicated website starting June 8.
As a bonus, elementary school children and younger visitors will receive an original sticker from the 'Collectible Encyclopedia GET!' series (a deluxe hologram version on Saturdays).
The event will be held at SAKU-Lab on the 2nd floor of Tokorozawa Sakura Town from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM (ending at 3:00 PM on the final day). Admission is 500 yen for ages 4 to elementary school, 1,200 yen for junior high school students and older (both tax included), and free for children 3 and under. For safety, visitors must follow staff instructions and be careful not to get their fingers pinched by stag beetles. The organizers assume no responsibility for accidents or theft.
During the period, a special commemorative goshuin stamp (1,000 yen) will be available at the Musashino Reiwa Shrine within the complex, and the AR facility 'HADO ARENA' will offer a 10% discount on services upon presentation of the insect exhibition ticket.
