The winning team, Urawa Gakuin High School (Saitama Prefecture)
Today, Sunday, March 29, 2026, the men's final of the 49th National High School Handball Championship was held, and Urawa Gakuin High School (Saitama Prefecture) defeated Konan High School (Okinawa Prefecture) to win their third championship in 11 years.
The match was a seesaw battle from the first half, with both teams showcasing their offensive strengths, ending the first half tied at 17-17.
Urawa Gakuin High School gained momentum at the start of the second half. Although they extended their lead at one point, Konan High School persistently fought back, making it a close game until the very end, where either team could have won. In the end, Urawa Gakuin narrowly won 37-35 to take the championship.
This is the third championship for Urawa Gakuin High School, and their first in 11 years since the 38th tournament (Fiscal Year 2014). Meanwhile, Konan High School aimed for their first championship since the 37th tournament but fell short, finishing as runner-up.
