Was it originally supposed to be a "penguin movie"?

Initially, beavers were not the center of the story. "For some reason, I was strongly drawn to penguins and really wanted to make a penguin movie, but Pete said, 'We've had enough penguin movies.' Ultimately, his judgment was correct," recalls director Daniel Chong. Later, he was inspired by the reintroduction of wolves into Yellowstone National Park, which regenerated the ecosystem and brought back many flora and fauna, including beavers. "When the beavers returned and built dams and ponds, a diverse range of plants and animals revived. They are known as 'ecosystem engineers,'" the director stated, explaining how this discovery determined the ideal protagonists for the story.
