Hatobus Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Ota-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Reiko Takeichi) will operate the 'Let’s Protect the Ocean’s Richness! Shonan-Enoshima Coastal Sustainable Tour' in August 2026 in collaboration with the NPO Shonan Vision Research Institute (President: Kiyohiro Katayama).

Currently, under the sustainability philosophy of 'pursuing safety, comfort, and environmental conservation to create a sustainable society that is kind to people and the planet,' Hatobus is actively promoting various SDGs initiatives. As part of these efforts, we have been operating 'Sustainable Tours' since May last year, which have received excellent feedback. This fourth edition focuses on 'marine environmental issues' and is scheduled during summer vacation to welcome participants of all ages, from children to adults.

◆ Tour Program

Beach Cleaning Experience: At Enoshima Nishiumi Beach, participants will clean the beach and collect microplastics※1.

※1 Microplastics are plastic particles smaller than 5mm in diameter. They enter the ocean and can harm marine life and human health.

Workshop: Using collected microplastics, participants will create ballpoint pens to take home as souvenirs.

Environmental Lecture: A lecture on marine environmental issues will help participants develop awareness and motivation to protect the ocean.

Lunch: At Enoshima Yacht Harbor, participants will enjoy a bento box featuring 'Tobiccho,' a local Enoshima specialty of boiled shrimp rice bowl.

Enoshima Exploration: Approximately one hour of free time to explore Enoshima at your own pace.

The tour vehicles used are eco-friendly large hybrid sightseeing buses that achieve excellent fuel efficiency and significant reduction in exhaust emissions. Additionally, a portion of the tour revenue will be donated to the Fujisawa City Environmental Fund.

We warmly welcome families with elementary and junior high school students, who can use this as a summer vacation research project. This tour is not limited to families—individual adult participants are also welcome. We look forward to welcoming a wide range of guests who are interested in environmental issues and eager to discover the charm of the ocean.

Message from Kiyohiro Katayama, President of NPO Shonan Vision Research Institute:

Shonan-Enoshima is a representative seaside destination in Japan, blessed with beautiful seas and rich natural surroundings. This tour allows participants to enjoy the summer sea of Shonan while learning about marine environmental issues in a fun way through beach cleaning and microplastic workshops. In collaboration with Hatobus, we have designed a tour where you can simultaneously 'play in the sea,' 'learn about the sea,' and 'protect the sea.' We hope this becomes a special summer memory for children and a joyful family experience. We encourage everyone to fully enjoy the charm of Shonan’s coastline.

Kiyohiro Katayama, President, NPO Shonan Vision Research Institute

Hatobus will continue to promote sustainable tourism through bus tours, striving to preserve natural environments, culture, and traditions, and to provide engaging learning experiences for children and all our customers.

Please note: Media coverage with on-site participation will be accepted on the first operating day (August 7). We kindly invite you to cover this event.
