Background and Purpose As the construction industry faces challenges regarding skill inheritance, Heisei Kensetsu has been implementing its own craftsman training program. This contest, planned by the carpenters themselves, aims to update traditional hand-carving techniques by making them a source of competition and engagement. It is an initiative to pass on technical expertise and the 'joy of making' to the next generation.
Heisei Kensetsu employs many award-winning artisans who have achieved top rankings in national skill competitions and plane-shaving contests, ensuring the delivery of high-quality architecture that utilizes these traditional techniques.
