The Boundary Between Paper and Life
When rough sketch lines drawn on simple paper are cut out, dynamic birds take flight in space. Contemporary kirie artist Yusuke Shimomura creates life from paper, much like a god creating living beings. Shimomura, who frequented Hanazono Rugby Stadium as a rugby player during his student days, also pays respect to Higashiosaka's aspect as a "city of manufacturing" boasting high technical skills. His commitment to techniques created with his own hands and his belief that creating something from nothing is creation resonate with the spirit of "manufacturing" in Higashiosaka. Yusuke Shimomura x Higashiosaka Citizen's Art Center. At this exhibition, witness the moment inorganic paper transforms into life through meticulously calculated techniques, crossing boundaries, and stand by as the cut-out birds move their wings carrying their missions. The birds released from nothingness into existence will likely echo with the rustling of wings, carrying the thoughts of each viewer. 【Contemporary Kirie Artist Yusuke Shimomura】 Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1988 While active as a rugby player during his student days, he continued to "draw pictures," something he loved since childhood, and established his world of kirie with a sensibility honed through complete self-study. He has expanded his activities overseas, holding kirie workshops in America, Spain, New Zealand, and other countries.
