The first call for applications for the long-awaited 'New Business Expansion/Monozukuri Commercial Service Subsidy' began on June 29, Reiwa 8. This subsidy supports small and medium-sized enterprises aiming for innovative product development, new market entry, and overseas expansion with a large budget of up to 90 million yen (when special measures apply).
On the other hand, we have received many inquiries such as, 'What is the difference from previous Monozukuri subsidies and new business expansion subsidies?' 'I cannot determine if our company's new business falls under the definition of 'new market/high value-added'.' 'To what extent are expenses such as building costs and overseas travel expenses eligible for subsidies?' 'I am hesitant to apply because I am afraid of the repayment risk if the wage increase requirement is not met.'
This subsidy will not be approved for mere equipment introduction; it requires incorporating strict basic requirements such as 'wage increases of 3.5% or more' and 'increase in added value by 4.0% or more' into the plan. Furthermore, if certain standards are met, an oral examination online may be imposed, making strategic preparation more essential than with previous subsidies.
Towards the deadline for the first call for applications (September 30, Reiwa 8), this seminar will thoroughly explain from a practical perspective:
- How to choose between the three application categories (Innovative Category, New Business Expansion Category, Global Category)
- How to interpret 'new business' and 'innovativeness' which hold the key to adoption
- How to utilize the New Business Expansion Category and Global Category, where building costs are also eligible
- Techniques for setting 'wage increase targets' with a correct understanding of repayment regulations
- Key points of the business plan that reviewers focus on
We encourage managers and staff who wish to 'take the next step by utilizing subsidies' to participate. This is an online Zoom event and participation is free.
Background of the Event
To overcome the severe business environment of prolonged price increases and a weak yen, it has become an urgent task for many small and medium-sized enterprises to 'challenge new markets beyond the scope of existing businesses' and 'achieve wage increases through added value improvement.'
Against this backdrop, the 'New Business Expansion/Monozukuri Commercial Service Subsidy,' which integrates and develops previous support systems, was born. In addition to supporting capital investment, this subsidy uniquely provides strong backing for entering new markets (New Business Expansion Category) and strengthening domestic export systems (Global Category).
Particularly noteworthy are the following points:
- High subsidy upper limits ranging from 70 million to 90 million yen
- Not only machinery and equipment but also 'building costs' are eligible for subsidies (New Business Expansion Category/Global Category)
- Mandatory requirement for 'wage increases' aiming for a virtuous cycle of growth and distribution
However, the increased complexity of the requirements has also created new concerns, such as 'which category is more advantageous for application?' and 'how should the repayment penalties for not meeting wage increase requirements be managed?'
This seminar will provide a detailed explanation of how to draw up a 'business plan' to win adoption and how to utilize wage increases as corporate growth energy, taking into account the latest trends for fiscal year 2026.
