TOPPAN Inc. (Headquarters: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; President: Haruhiko Noguchi; hereafter TOPPAN), a group company of TOPPAN Holdings, will launch a decarbonization support service for interior construction on June 17 under its 'expace®' brand, which provides one-stop planning, design, and construction for residential and commercial facilities.
The service comprehensively supports CO2 emission reduction through the calculation of emissions in interior construction, procurement of low-carbon materials, and carbon offsetting. Utilizing expertise gained from its long-standing decorative materials business and experience in calculating CO2 emissions, TOPPAN has developed a new calculation method for CO2 emissions related to material transportation and waste during interior construction. Furthermore, by providing comprehensive support including emission reduction through appropriate material selection and the provision of offset quotas using the carbon offset support service 'Minna no Carbon Offset®,' the company contributes to the promotion of environmental management for client firms.
Key Features: - New calculation method: TOPPAN has developed a method to precisely aggregate and visualize CO2 emission data during interior construction, utilizing its expertise and advice from external experts. - Emission reduction through material selection: The company aims to reduce CO2 emissions across the value chain by using building materials with lower emissions during manufacturing and considering load reduction during transport and waste stages. Prioritizing EPD (Environmental Product Declaration)-certified materials increases accuracy and speed in calculation and material selection. - Carbon offset support: When further reduction is difficult, TOPPAN provides support through 'Minna no Carbon Offset®,' offering credits derived from forests, renewable energy, etc.
Performance: TOPPAN offset approximately 280 tons of CO2 for its 1,000㎡ showroom, 'expace office TOKYO,' renovated in February 2026. Of this, 256 tons were offset using internal credits, and 24 tons were offset using forest credits. The results were reviewed by Professor Norihiro Itsubo of Waseda University's Faculty of Science and Engineering.
Future Targets: TOPPAN aims to expand the 'expace®' brand renovation business to offices, hotels, and commercial facilities, targeting 3 billion yen in sales by fiscal year 2028.
