KPMG Consulting has released the Japanese version of the report, 'Intelligent life sciences – A blueprint for value creation through AI-driven transformation,' which outlines the challenges and approaches for life sciences organizations to create long-term value through AI.
This report is based on a survey conducted by KPMG International covering 1,390 managers in major global markets, including 183 senior AI leaders driving business transformation through AI in the life sciences sector.
Key survey findings include:
1. AI is a critical differentiator: 86% believe that organizations fully adopting AI enhance their competitive advantage. 2. The role of AI is clear: 92% understand the AI technologies and capabilities they should invest in. 3. Operational improvement via AI: 97% have achieved operational improvements, with 73% achieving efficiency gains. 4. High ROI achievement is limited: Currently, only 31% of organizations are achieving high ROI. 5. Adaptable organizational structure: Organizations combining departmental and agile models are twice as likely to achieve high ROI. 6. Data as a barrier: 68% cite data challenges as one of the biggest barriers to AI adoption. 7. The future of agentic AI: 89% allow AI to make end-to-end autonomous decisions for specific processes.
To maximize value from AI in the life sciences sector, it is crucial to formulate AI strategies and build scalable foundations for technology and data.
