In recent years, the normalization of extreme heat has raised questions about the nature and use of outdoor spaces. Consequently, nighttime is gaining attention for its potential in urban economic activities and community building, and enhancing the value of public spaces at night is becoming increasingly important for future urban competitiveness.

Against this backdrop of social change, this project will examine new possibilities for utilizing public spaces at night and the advancement of sustainable urban functions.

Concept: "FRONT"

This event is not about creating excitement with loud noises or strong performances. Light art installations, street board games, comfortable sofas, a mobile flower shop, and special food and drinks. These elements scattered along Marunouchi Naka-dori will inspire passersby to think, "Maybe I'll stop by for a bit."

It is a nighttime playground in Yurakucho designed as a "FRONT" where visitors can casually stop by—a place where people naturally mingle without being forced into any particular purpose, allowing for diverse ways of engagement.

Introducing the Contents of "NIGHT PARK & PLAYGROUND YURAKUCHO"

1 Symbolic Monument (Interactive Art)

A cluster of light spheres will be placed at the center of the area. They will pulse gently as if breathing even when no one is touching them, and their light will change when people approach. When two or more people touch different spheres simultaneously, an emergent phenomenon "EMERGENCE" occurs that cannot be achieved by one person alone. Light unique to that moment will be created in response to the movements of people present.

2 Analog Living Room (Heartbeat-Linked Relaxation Space)

A living room-like space with sofas and tables. When a wearable device is worn, the rhythm and brightness of the sphere lights will subtly change in sync with the heartbeats of the people present. Time spent with friends will gradually synchronize with the lights of the space.

3 Adult Playground

Designed for moments of spontaneous fun rather than winning or losing. Various play equipment that fosters natural interaction among participants will be scattered throughout.

Othello Tables: Large Othello boards with illuminated playing surfaces. Conversations naturally flow through the game.

BIG Board Games: Street board games that are enjoyed using the entire body.

Illuminated Seesaws/Rocking Horses/Wobbly Chairs: Play equipment that glows and sways when ridden or moved. Simple interactions can be enjoyed.

Disconnected Rotary Phones: Telephones placed solely for the purpose of "talking about your day."

A small non-alcoholic street stand will also be open next to it, where visitors can enjoy their time with a drink. Topics are open, from flowers to recent interests, love, and relationships. ~From a Working Town to a Town for Enjoyment~

MARUNOUCHI SUMMER FEST

With the diversification of working styles, business areas are increasingly expected to serve a multifaceted role that enhances quality of life, not just as "places to work." In the Marunouchi area, initiatives are underway to enhance the attractiveness of the entire town and improve the satisfaction and QOL of workers by leveraging the connections between companies, shops, public spaces, and people.

We aim to foster a deeper appreciation for the Marunouchi area by allowing workers and their families to experience the enjoyment and richness of spending time in this town, thereby contributing to the sustainable enhancement of the area's value.

Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd.

Mitsubishi Estate, established in 1937, is a comprehensive real estate company. With the mission of "Contributing to society through town development," they engage in a wide range of businesses, including the development, leasing, and operation of offices and commercial facilities, as well as residential development and sales, design and supervision, real estate brokerage, and overseas business.

Particularly in the Otemachi, Marunouchi, and Yurakucho areas, they have built strengths in "convenience" and "concentration of companies and talent" through over 135 years of town development. In recent years, they have been promoting the "Whole Town Workplace" concept, which leverages these strengths to provide values and experiences that individual tenant companies cannot achieve on their own, by offering them across the "entire town."

This project, as part of that initiative, aims to create new attractions and ways to spend time in Yurakucho through the utilization of public spaces at night.

<Marunouchi "Whole Town Workplace" Concept>

One of the characteristics of the Marunouchi area is the "convenience and concentration" built over 135 years of town development with customers and various stakeholders.

Based on this characteristic, the "entire town" supports what tenant companies cannot achieve solely within their own offices or through individual efforts, and the entire area functions as a platform to enhance the quality and efficiency of work styles.
