OMO7 Kochi by Hoshino Resorts, a city-center hotel where guests can experience the vibrancy of the Yosakoi Festival and local "Okyaku" culture, will serve "Tosa Herb Shaved Ice" at the OMO Cafe & Bar from June 4 to August 31, 2026. This shaved ice features a modern twist on local staples: ginger, Japanese pepper, and shiso leaves. Each serving is presented in one of six handmade glasses crafted by a local glass studio specifically for this project. It is a refreshing taste of a Tosa summer, both visually and gastronomically, highlighting the charm of these ingredients through surprising combinations.
In recent years, the number of extremely hot days has increased nationwide, with 2025 recording the highest temperatures on record. Providing "coolness" in summer has become a crucial factor in the quality of city exploration. Therefore, we focused on Kochi's specialties: ginger, Japanese pepper, and shiso. These ingredients are known to stimulate appetite through their refreshing aromas and spiciness. They offer a light, refreshing taste even during the hot summer months when appetite tends to decline. This project was developed to offer a moment of surprise and relaxation during city walks, supporting comfortable tourism.
We offer three types of shaved ice that highlight the charm of Kochi's condiments in an unprecedented way. The "Hiyashi-ame Shaved Ice with Ginger and Imo-kenpi" is a specialty unique to Kochi, the top ginger producer in Japan. It features a rich cream made with sweet potato and mascarpone, topped with local Imo-kenpi snacks. The "Strawberry Shortcake Shaved Ice with Shiso Aroma" is an evolved version of shortcake, combining shiso syrup ice with sweet strawberry sauce. The "Tosa Tea Shaved Ice with Sansho Jelly" is a Japanese-style dessert featuring black honey syrup, Tosa tea condensed milk sauce, and Japanese pepper jelly.
Adding to the experience are original glasses handmade by "Chiisana Glass Kobo Tochi" in Nankoku City, Kochi Prefecture. The six colors symbolize the local climate, such as the Pacific Ocean and citrus fruits. After enjoying the shaved ice, we recommend joining the "Tosa Supermarket Tour" guided by an "OMO Ranger." At the local supermarket "Sunshine Claire," guests can purchase the ingredients used in the shaved ice and learn about the real food culture of Kochi.
