The iCD Association (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Norihiko Kida) has conducted a comprehensive revision of AI-related tasks in the Task Dictionary of the i Competency Dictionary (hereinafter "iCD") in collaboration with NTT DATA Group (Koto-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Kazuhiko Nakayama, hereinafter "NTT DATA Group") and NTT DATA University (Meguro-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Kazuo Kakeya, hereinafter "NTT DATA University").

Overview

The Association has long been actively expanding the iCD task framework, now reaching approximately five times the number of tasks compared to the initial version released by the Information-Technology Promotion Agency (IPA) on July 31, 2014.

While many companies have adopted iCD, including its expanded tasks, a comprehensive review based on the practical use of rapidly advancing AI—particularly generative AI—has become an urgent necessity.

Meanwhile, NTT DATA Group has continuously worked on cultivating and securing AI talent within the company, establishing frameworks and expertise for training practical generative AI professionals. At the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting (Davos 2026) held in January 2026, the company announced its intention to widely disseminate these insights to corporations, governments, and educational institutions to contribute to the advancement of AI talent development.

Fortunately, as part of this social contribution initiative, iCD has been adopted, and now, with the participation of NTT DATA Group and NTT DATA University, the Association has launched a project to revise the AI tasks by incorporating the generative AI talent development frameworks and practical insights cultivated by NTT DATA Group. The revision includes the following:

ⅰ. Significant expansion of AI04 "Generative AI"*

ⅱ. Addition of new tasks from an AI utilization perspective to existing engineering and other task categories

ⅲ. Creation of an AI utilization level and iCD task correspondence table covering all tasks, including existing ones

* The AI04 "Generative AI" task cluster was formulated and published in December 2023 with the cooperation of AXR Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Kazunari Maeda, formerly DXHR Inc.).
