This initiative marks the first instance of biofuel delivery to a domestic scheduled RORO vessel at Hakata Port.
RORO Vessel 'Nanotsu'
Biofuels are anticipated as one of the key solutions for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the maritime sector, as they can be used without modifying existing ship engines. Primary feedstocks include organic resources such as vegetable oils, waste cooking oil, and animal fats. While CO2 is emitted during combustion, the plants used as feedstock absorb CO2 from the atmosphere during their growth, making the net emissions effectively zero (carbon neutral). The B24 biofuel blend delivered this time consists of 24% biofuel mixed with VLSFO (very low sulfur fuel oil), and is expected to reduce GHG emissions during vessel operations.
