JAF Gifu to Host 'Backyard Tour' at Shinhotaka Ropeway After 2-Year Hiatus

The Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) Gifu Branch (Branch Chief Motoyasu Kato) will host the 'JAF Day at Shinhotaka Ropeway Backyard Tour' on Saturday, August 22, marking its return after a two-year hiatus.

This special tour offers visitors a rare opportunity to explore the normally inaccessible 'backstage' areas that support the operation of Japan's only double-decker gondola, including the driving control room and mechanical facilities. The event includes round-trip tickets for both the First and Second Ropeways, allowing participants to enjoy stunning panoramic views from over 2,000 meters above sea level. Surrounded by the majestic Northern Japanese Alps, this alpine experience promises unforgettable summer memories.

[Venue] Shinhotaka Ropeway (Shinhotaka Onsen, Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture)

[Capacity] 15 participants per session (registration closes when full)

(1) 10:00–11:00 (Assembly at 9:30)

(2) 14:00–15:00 (Assembly at 13:30)

[Meeting Point] Shinhotaka Onsen Station (in front of the 2nd-floor ropeway boarding area)

※ After assembly, participants will board the First Ropeway to Shirakaba-daira Station to begin the Backyard Tour.

[Minimum Participants] 5 per session (event will be canceled if not met)

[Eligibility]

- JAF members and their companions

- Participants must be elementary school age or older (preschool children cannot participate)

- Only registered individuals may attend; no unregistered guests

- Minors (middle school and below) must be accompanied by a guardian

[Participation Fee] Adult (middle school and above): ¥6,000; Child (6 years and above): ¥3,000

- The fee includes round-trip tickets for both the First and Second Ropeways.

[Parking] Please use the Shinhotaka Onsen Parking Lot.

- Separate parking fees apply (¥800 per 6 hours for standard vehicles).
