JEIC, a company providing corporate training and recruitment support, has released the results of a survey regarding 'managerial caution' among full-time employees aged 20-29 who used their job placement services. (Respondents: 238, Survey Period: Jan 9 – May 12, 2026)
Over 30% feel their manager is 'withholding' or 'being overly cautious'. When asked if they feel their manager is hesitant or overly cautious, 2.9% said 'frequently' and 30.7% said 'sometimes'. Combined, about one in three young employees feel this in their daily workplace.
Situations where this is felt: 1st: 'When pointing out mistakes' (51.3%) 2nd: 'When asking about private matters' (27.5%) Other common responses included casual non-work conversations, offering praise, assigning high-difficulty tasks, and providing growth-oriented guidance.
70% prefer direct communication without excessive caution. When asked if they desire a relationship without such excessive caution, 70% answered 'Yes'.
Reasons for desiring frank communication: - Growth: Employees believe failure helps long-term development. Excessive caution prevents necessary feedback, negatively impacting growth. - Productivity: Frank exchange of opinions is essential for higher precision and results. - Relationship Building: Clear communication makes reporting, informing, and consulting easier. - Clarity: Indirect communication often leads to misunderstandings of the manager's intent.
