The Japan Multi-Payment Network Promotion Council, together with the National Tax Agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the Local Tax Agency, the Financial Services Agency, the Bank of Japan, the Japanese Bankers Association, the Regional Banks Association of Japan, and the Second Association of Regional Banks, all members of the Cashless Payment Promotion Council*, will commence the second phase of joint public relations to promote cashless tax payments utilizing social media and other channels, starting today.
The second phase will be implemented from Friday, May 1, to Friday, May 22, 2026, coinciding with the tax payment period for corporate and individual consumption tax, automobile tax, light vehicle tax, and fixed asset tax.
*The Cashless Payment Promotion Council was established in May 2024 with the aim of planning and developing various measures, including understanding challenges and business needs for cashless payments, discussing implementation methods, and reviewing tools and methods for encouraging usage, with the aforementioned public and private sector stakeholders as members.
Following the first phase implemented in January this year, by continuously communicating the benefits of cashless payments through public-private collaboration, we aim to establish an environment where taxpayers can easily pay their taxes "anytime, anywhere."
Especially during this May period, when many people have tax payment opportunities, we encourage everyone to experience the convenience of cashless payments, which can be completed with "zero waiting time" from their smartphones or PCs. Our council will continue to work hand-in-hand with relevant parties to promote the digitalization of tax payments that are integrated into everyone's daily lives.
