JAI Injury and Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. (Head Office: 1-8-10 Harumi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Keiichi Oyama) has compiled accident occurrence data from overseas travel insurance policies for the 2025 fiscal year.

This annual survey is conducted to increase public awareness of overseas travel insurance by disclosing accident data, helping customers travel abroad safely and with peace of mind.

1. Accident Rate:

In the 2025 fiscal year, one in 22 customers (4.5%) experienced an accident (such as injury or illness) and utilized the company's overseas travel insurance.

2. Accident Status by Coverage Category:

"Medical and Rescue Expenses," covering treatment costs and medical evacuation, accounted for approximately 50% of claims, followed by "Personal Effects Damage" (covering theft or damage to luggage) and "Travel Emergency Expenses" (covering unexpected costs due to flight cancellations, etc.).

The distribution of claims varies by region. "Medical and Rescue Expenses" are more prevalent in Asia and Oceania, "Personal Effects Damage" in Guam, Saipan, and Africa, while "Travel Emergency Expenses" are more common in Europe, North America, and Central and South America.

3. High-Cost Medical Cases:

Incidents involving medical claims exceeding 3 million yen occurred worldwide. The highest single payout for medical and rescue expenses in the 2025 fiscal year exceeded 25 million yen.

While some travelers rely solely on credit card-provided insurance or travel without coverage, overseas medical facilities may deny treatment without proof of payment assurance through insurance. Medical costs abroad are often significantly higher than in Japan, and additional expenses such as medical interpretation or repatriation via medical evacuation may arise. Therefore, the company recommends insurance plans offering comprehensive coverage, including unlimited benefits for medical and rescue expenses.
