Global enter-tech company BIGC (CEO: Kim Mi-hee) announced on the 22nd that it will release the first broadcast of the SBS Life music program 'THE SHOW' on June 2.
It is highly unusual in the entertainment and media industry for an IT startup to oversee the production of a terrestrial music program with a 15-year tradition. BIGC aims to break away from the existing K-POP music show framework, which has been focused on domestic audiences, and launch a next-generation 'Global Music Show' that combines cutting-edge IT and global fandom data.
The background behind BIGC's innovative attempt is deeply related to the rapidly globalizing trend of the K-POP industry. BIGC will present a new music show paradigm by combining its accumulated global membership base of 3.6 million in 232 countries and 1.3 billion artist and fandom data points with the broadcast content.
In line with the identity of a 'Global Music Show', the company will extensively expand touchpoints with viewers worldwide. Moving away from the conventional domestic channel-centered transmission method, it will partner with the global content platform 'TikTok' to stream the program simultaneously to the world through 'TikTok LIVE'. Additionally, through a collaboration with NEW ID, the program will also be broadcast on K-POP channels on global FAST platforms. The strategy is to target global fans simultaneously through mega-platforms with hundreds of millions of users. Additional media and platform companies that will complete the new Global Music Show with BIGC, besides TikTok, will be announced sequentially.
Large changes are also expected in chart calculations and fan participation, taking global fan base trends into account, such as reflecting global music sources. Global voting for 'THE SHOW' will be held exclusively on BIGC's app and web platform, with detailed criteria for determining the winner to be revealed later on the official BIGC website.
The biggest change is in the music show format. A program called 'FAN POPTY', where artists and fans become one, will be unveiled. Breaking away from stylized conventional broadcast formats, it is a groundbreaking music variety show structure that focuses on one comeback artist per episode. Consisting of content optimized for global fandoms, such as album stories and behind-the-scenes footage, 'FAN POPTY' will be pre-released exclusively worldwide via the BIGC app (web), and then delivered to fans around the world through 'THE K-POP', the official YouTube channel of 'THE SHOW'.
Kim Chil-sung, who is in charge of overall management at BIGC, stated, 'In line with the explosive global expansion of the K-POP industry, domestic Korean music programs also need to evolve.' He added, 'Utilizing the strength of a tech startup directly producing music shows, we want to combine BIGC's data and media infrastructure to create the best stage where artists can shine the brightest.'
