Japan Post Real Estate Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Akira Ikeda) and Japan Post Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Shinya Koike) announce that from April 2026, the electricity for their owned properties listed below (office buildings and commercial facilities), including the electricity used by tenants, will be switched to effectively renewable energy-derived power (*1).
(*1) What is effectively renewable energy power? This refers to electricity that is considered effectively derived from renewable energy by attaching 'renewable energy certificates,' such as non-fossil fuel certificates, which prove that the electricity was generated from renewable energy sources.
1. Overview
The Japan Post Group aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and is targeting a 46% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by fiscal year 2030 compared to fiscal year 2019. This initiative is being implemented as part of measures to reduce environmental impact, based on the Japan Post Group's mission and social responsibility. In the target properties, an RE100 (*2) compliant plan will be introduced for the entire building, covering not only common areas but also private tenant spaces. This will also contribute to the tenants' achievement of RE100.
The total CO2 reduction (*3) from this power switch initiative is estimated to be approximately 45,000 tons annually.
(*2) What is RE100? RE100 is an international initiative through which companies aim to switch the electricity used in their business activities to 100% renewable energy.
(*3) Total CO2 reduction The estimated reduction amount is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of each facility converted into CO2.
