The Japan Planning Institute (JPI) is inviting Mr. Shigeyuki Tsukao, Department Manager of Substation Technology at TEPCO Power Grid, Inc., to deliver a seminar explaining efforts in environmental impact assessment and future prospects based on the latest domestic and international trends in SF₆ alternative gas technology for power applications.

Mr. Tsukao is a leading expert with over 30 years of experience in substation equipment design, maintenance, and international standards research, having handled both practical operations and standardization including overseas assignments and manufacturer secondment.

Practical insights gained from this seminar: ・International comparison of SF₆ alternative gas technologies and organization of criteria for internal adoption decisions. ・Assessment of equipment selection risks based on Western regulations and PFAS regulations. ・Perspectives on evaluating GHG reduction values and incorporating them into investment decisions.

Lecture overview: Movements toward sales regulations on switchgear using high-GWP gases, including SF₆, and the development and introduction of alternative gas equipment are accelerating globally. This lecture will cover the latest development situations in Japan and overseas, trends in European and American fluorinated gas and PFAS regulations, as well as the valuation of GHG emission reductions and market evaluation methods.
