NEC Mobile POS Exhibits and Participates in "Smart Register System Hands-on Experience @ Osaka" Hosted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry

NEC Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Takashi Morita; hereinafter NEC) exhibited and participated in the "Smart Register System Hands-on Experience" (Organizer: Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) held in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture on June 12, 2026 (Fri). This event was part of a promotion by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to encourage the adoption of smart register systems.

The number of businesses adopting "NEC Mobile POS" has steadily increased to approximately 1,900 companies and about 13,000 stores. We have also accumulated expertise in new ways to utilize POS systems and DX promotion case studies. At the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's "Smart Register System Hands-on Experience," we provided opportunities to experience tax rate change settings, demonstrated smart register systems, and introduced integrated services that can enhance functionality without customization.

Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Initiatives to Promote Smart Register Systems

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry defines "mobile POS registers" that use general-purpose devices such as tablets and smartphones as POS terminals as "smart register systems." These systems offer benefits such as centralized cloud-based management of sales, inventory, and customer information.

Following instructions from Prime Minister Kishida to Minister Akazawa to "promptly begin promoting the spread of smart register systems that are flexible to consumption tax rate changes," and with the aim of improving the productivity of small and medium-sized enterprises, promotional activities for the spread of "smart register systems" are accelerating.

Scenes from the Smart Register System Hands-on Experience

In conjunction with the general meeting of the National Federation of Small Business Associations and other events, a hands-on experience session was conducted for officials of the federation by three "smart register system" providers, including "NEC Mobile POS." Our company primarily introduced the following:
