Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. and KDDI SmartDrone Inc. conducted a demonstration of facility inspection using the Liberaware "IBIS2", a drone dedicated to narrow spaces, at the "Iidabashi Grand Bloom" office building in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. The test evaluated the drone's flight and photography capabilities in confined, dark, and high-altitude areas such as underground water tanks, air conditioning ducts, ceilings, and high-voltage electrical rooms. The results confirmed the visualization of equipment status (water leaks, dirt, and damage) in difficult-to-inspect areas. It also improved worker safety by replacing dangerous tasks like using stepladders or entering confined underground tanks, and enhanced efficiency by reducing incidental work like setting up temporary scaffolds or draining water. Building on this knowledge, the two companies plan to explore the implementation of drone-based facility inspections in office buildings, expanding the scope of applications to improve urban infrastructure maintenance and disaster resilience.
