NIPONIQUE to Exhibit at Milan Design Week 2026

The interior goods brand NIPONIQUE, developed by Kawano Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: 213 Egekoga, Oki-machi, Mizuma-gun, Fukuoka 830-0415, Representative: Shintaro Kiyonari, hereinafter "the Company"), will exhibit at Fuorisalone during the Salone del Mobile. Milano 2026, held in Milan, Italy, from Tuesday, April 21 to Sunday, April 26, 2026.

NIPONIQUE's exhibition in Milan

Originating from the craftsmanship nurtured in the Chikugo region, NIPONIQUE proposes new value in architectural materials by bundling excellent techniques from all over Japan and offering material proposals that harmonize with the worldview of a space. In this exhibition, materials such as washbowls and kitchen counters made with ceramics, artificial marble, and hand-painting techniques, textiles using Tango crepe techniques, and rush (igusa) are materialized into dining tables, chairs, and lamps through co-creation with designers. Against the backdrop of the woodworking culture of Okawa, the city of furniture, and the sincere craftsmanship nurtured alongside the nature of Chikugo, a serene worldview centered on the aesthetic of "Wabi-Sabi" is constructed. Through the textures, blank spaces, and shadows woven by materials and design, you can experience new expressions that explore the possibilities of space. Through this exhibition, we invite you to view the worldview of NIPONIQUE, which proposes new value to spaces as an existence connecting Milan, Chikugo, and the world by combining the power of Japanese materials, techniques, and design. Additionally, this exhibition will be held at "Wicky’s Innovative Japanese Cuisine," a Japanese restaurant in Milan. Through a special collaboration between owner-chef Wicky Priyan and Satoshi Ogawa of "Sushi Ogawa," you can enjoy a unique experience where Japanese food and interior design merge.

A dining table featuring an artificial marble top developed with inspiration from the depth of light and coloration found in Yohen Tenmoku pottery. The colors and reflections fluctuate depending on the light and perspective, continuously changing expressions and bringing a temporal expansiveness to the space. The legs have a modern composition based on structural equilibrium, and by incorporating Japanese details into the vital cross-pieces, a delicate tension is created between the dynamically changing material expression and the static structure.

Superimposing diverse surface textures onto a simple form that looks carved from a cylinder, it brings continuous changes in expression from when it is off to when it is lit. When lit, delicate reflections and shadows are born, soft light bringing depth to the space. By holding it, one can experience the texture and weight of the artificial marble, finding the aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi within the shifting light and shadows.
