KIMOTO Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Inabe City, Mie Prefecture, President: Shoichi Kobayashi) offers a new service called "SPLAT TWIN" that utilizes the cutting-edge technology "Gaussian Splatting" to generate high-definition 3D spatial data from multiple images, in collaboration with KOO Inc. (Headquarters: Otaru City, Hokkaido, President: Tomo Nakamura).

KOO Inc., our joint research partner, applied to the "10th Value Design Contest" hosted by the Public Interest Incorporated Association Japan Junior Chamber, with the theme "A service that converts real spaces and objects into realistic 3D data and creates digital archive data." KOO Inc. won both the "Minister of Digital Affairs Award" and the "NIKKEI THE PITCH Award."

The application included initiatives using SPLAT TWIN, and its technology and applicability were highly praised.

"SPLAT TWIN": Reproducing realistic 3D spaces from photos and videos

SPLAT TWIN is a KIMOTO service that reproduces real spaces as high-definition 3D data from photos and videos.

By utilizing Gaussian Splatting technology, it reproduces even textures and colors that are difficult to express with laser measurement, creating photo-realistic 3D spaces. Furthermore, it creates high-quality 3D models while keeping data capacity down, making it easy to view and share without specialized equipment.

It is being used in various fields, including digital archiving of cultural properties and buildings, as well as facility management and infrastructure inspection.

SPLAT TWIN x Crawler Robot

Visualizing underground waterways inaccessible to humans as realistic 3D spaces

SPLAT TWIN is already being used in actual field applications.

In narrow, dark underground waterways where human access is difficult, safely and accurately grasping the internal conditions is a major challenge.

By combining SPLAT TWIN with a crawler robot developed by EIGHT JAPAN ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS Co., Ltd. FANNOVATE LAB, we photographed the interior of an underground waterway and visualized it as high-definition 3D spatial data.

By generating 3D spatial data from the images captured by the crawler robot, the current state and positional relationships inside the waterway are reproduced as a realistic space, similar to a photograph. This is expected to be used for understanding conditions such as collapsed sections and for the maintenance and inspection of underground structures.

The Future SPLAT TWIN Aims For

KIMOTO is collaborating with KOO Inc. and EIGHT JAPAN ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS Co., Ltd. FANNOVATE LAB to advance the technological development and expand the application areas of SPLAT TWIN.

Taking this award as an opportunity, we will further promote its use as a digital twin technology that contributes to solving social issues, in addition to digital archiving of cultural properties and buildings, infrastructure inspection, facility management, and disaster prevention fields.
