'Batappe', launched in 1976.

Our company endorses April Dream, an initiative to make April 1st a day for sharing dreams.

This press release is the dream of Cologne Co., Ltd.

The Bread Called 'Batappe'

When you think of the signature product of the long-established Kobe bakery Cologne (founded in 1946, headquarters: Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture), it's the 'Chocoppe,' a soft French bread filled with milk chocolate cream.

Since its launch in 1974, it has sold, by a conservative estimate, over 22.5 million units, making it what can be called 'Cologne's immovable ace' in terms of both popularity and name recognition.

Beside that 'ace,' there is a bread that has quietly accumulated 50 years.

It's the 'Batappe,' born as the partner to the Chocoppe.

The Batappe is a simple loaf, the same 18cm long soft French bread as the Chocoppe, but filled with peanut butter cream and wrapped in a band that reads 'Batappe'.

Chocoppe and Batappe

Two years after the Chocoppe, in 1976, it was created with the thought that 'Chocoppe needs a partner too.' Since then, it has been continuously loved as a set with Chocoppe, mainly in its hometown of Kobe.

It's a bread that, while not conspicuous, has been picked up by someone every day.

Chocoppe and Batappe

The Chocoppe can sell up to 1,600 units a day across all Cologne stores, truly serving as 'Cologne's business card.'

On the other hand, the sales volume of Batappe is about one-third to half of that.

In reality, it is the Chocoppe that overwhelmingly receives collaboration offers from various companies and organizations.
