Komatsu Wall Launches 'Architectural Seminar 2026'

Komatsu Wall Industry Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture; President: Shinya Kano) will host its 2026 architectural seminar series. This seminar was initiated in 2025 as a forum for exploring the nature and possibilities of architecture with those involved in the field.

For the first session of the second year, the company will feature the theme 'Inheriting Modern Architecture' and invite Kenta Ishiguro from Nozawa Masamitsu Architectural Studio as the guest speaker. The seminar will be held at the All Japan Seamen's Union Headquarters, a building designed by Masato Otaka and completed in 1964, which finished a comprehensive renovation in December 2024. The event will include an architectural tour with commentary from the architect.

### Dialogue Exploring the Possibilities of Architecture

The seminar, started in 2025, aims to explore the state and future potential of architecture with professionals and students. In its first year, the program consisted of nine sessions featuring prominent architects such as Hiroshi Naito, Mitsuru Senda, and Tetsuo Kobori, focusing on architecture from a 'monozukuri' (craftsmanship) perspective. For the 2026 season, the discussions will be further deepened based on last year's experience.

### Session 1: Inheriting Modern Architecture through Preservation, Restoration, and Updating

The first session of 2026 will focus on the All Japan Seamen's Union Headquarters in Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo, designed by modernist pioneer Masato Otaka (Otaka Architect & Associates) in 1964. Having stood for 60 years, the building represents the union's history, and a major renovation was completed in December 2024 to modernize it as a contemporary office while preserving its legacy.

Nozawa Masamitsu Architectural Studio, responsible for the design management of this project, multilayeredly implemented 'preservation and restoration' to connect historical value to the next generation, and 'updating' to ensure modern comfort. On the day of the seminar, a guided tour led by the designer will be held to uncover specific and practical methods for passing on modern architecture to the future.
