Kyoto Sangyo University Gallery will hold the spring special exhibition 'Kyoto Tourism Past and Present - From Travel to Tourism' from Friday, May 1, to Saturday, June 20, 2026. This exhibition introduces the evolution of Kyoto tourism from the late Edo period to modern times through various materials such as travel guides, railway documents, and panoramic tourist maps.

In conjunction with this exhibition, the first related lecture, themed 'The Establishment of Modern Tourism and Photographic Technology,' will feature Kenichi Mori (Professor, Faculty of International Tourism, Heian Jogakuin University), a leading expert in Kyoto tourism and historical heritage research. He will explain the establishment of modern tourism in an easy-to-understand manner, set in Kyoto from the Meiji to early Showa periods when urban development was progressing.

Furthermore, during the exhibition period, a second lecture themed 'Modern Kyoto through Famous Architecture: Regeneration and Modernity of the Ancient Capital' by Professor Naotake Maeda of the Faculty of Cultural Studies, Kyoto Sangyo University, is also scheduled. Along with the special exhibition, this provides an opportunity to comprehensively understand Kyoto's modernization and the expansion of tourism culture.
