Kumamoto University, in collaboration with Newco One Co., Ltd., will host the 'Kumadai Town Campus' talk event titled 'The Future of the Semiconductor Industry: Potential and Limits of Kumamoto's Development from an Economic Geography Perspective.'
Triggered by TSMC's decision to locate a factory in the region, Kumamoto's semiconductor industry is undergoing rapid growth, described by many as a 'once-in-a-century opportunity.' Professor Hiroshi Kashima from the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, an expert in economic geography, will explain the impact of this rapid growth on Kumamoto's economy and identify factors that may hinder change. The lecture will feature Professor Kashima's analysis of current Kumamoto and his predictions on how the region will evolve following TSMC's entry.
