Heijo-kyo Hina-matsuri Continues until Grand Finale on April 12
"Heijo-kyo Hina-matsuri (Hina no Sekku)," which has been held since February 21, 2026, at the World Heritage Site Heijo Palace Site Historical Park (Nara City, Nara Prefecture), surpassed 200,000 cumulative visitors as of March 27, 2026.
This event is held as an initiative to re-exhibit hina dolls generously donated and transferred by many people, creating new value and stories. Visitors can enjoy the sight of hina dolls shining brightly again in a historical space, attracting support from a wide range of generations.
In the Suzaku-mon Gate area of the venue, a grand hina doll display of overwhelming scale has been set up, drawing attention as a popular photo spot. Additionally, Tenpyo Mitsukikan features unique "Hina Hakkkei" (Eight Scenic Views of Hina Dolls), offering visitors diverse viewing experiences. Furthermore, participatory contents such as "Nagashi-bina" (floating hina dolls) and "Mizu-Omikuji" (water fortune-telling) are also abundant, making it an attractive experiential event beyond mere viewing.
### Heijo-kyo in Spring with Cherry Blossoms and Hina-matsuri
Did you know that Heijo Palace Site Historical Park is also famous for its cherry blossoms?
During the Nara period, there is an anecdote that Emperor Shomu himself planted cherry trees, indicating a deep connection between Heijo-kyo and cherry blossoms. The finale of the Hina-matsuri coincides with the season when these cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
