Kyoto Seika University (Location: Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City; President: Jun Jiang), Faculty of Design, Department of Product Design, has partnered with Fukujuen Co., Ltd. (Location: Kizugawa City, Kyoto Prefecture; President: Masao Fukui) to launch the collaborative course 'Kokoromi × Future – Envisioning Future Life Scenarios from Tea' starting April 2026.
This course aims to empower students to create new forms of communication in future lifestyles by leveraging the charm of tea. Structured in three phases—Cultivation (tea history, culture, and production processes), Embodiment (daily tea experiences), and Creation (proposing sustainable new values)—it is a hands-on program. Students have explored rich, new ways of engaging with tea, engaging in discussions with Fukujuen staff and visiting tea production sites to develop product, service, and experiential designs tailored to the lifestyles of Gen Z and Millennials.
The成果発表会 (成果 presentation event) will now showcase these outcomes. The exhibition will feature diverse ideas born from the fusion of student perspectives and Fukujuen’s deep tea culture expertise. All are welcome to attend.

Kyoto Seika University Department of Product Design
"Learning design for all products—from clothing, food, and housing to cutting-edge technology"
The Department of Product Design cultivates designers with both expertise and broad perspectives, capable of supporting people’s lives and society through tools, furniture, household goods, and fashion. In the first year, students follow a common curriculum to learn foundational skills in three-dimensional design, drawing, and design theory, while experiencing each specialization. From the second year, they join specialized tracks to deepen their technical and academic knowledge. The department emphasizes cross-specialization course selection and project work, enabling students to respond to diverse design challenges. It actively promotes industry-academia-government collaboration, offering numerous opportunities for students to co-create with companies and local governments. In today’s world, where global and long-term issues such as environmental challenges and lifestyle diversification are prominent, the design field demands creators who can observe society holistically and propose comprehensive solutions and new values. After four years of a robust curriculum, graduates emerge as highly specialized designers, planners, or directors with wide-ranging perspectives.
