Local Design Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture; Representative: Kenichi Kawabe), which develops businesses ranging from real estate development to hotel management and e-commerce, will open 'TOUSUMI,' an unmanned accommodation facility where each room can accommodate up to 10 guests, in Gion, Hakata-ku, on July 1, 2026.
This project was realized through tie-ups with Kyushu-based brands and creators who share the company's aspirations. We aim to deliver a stay experience that brings light to the heart, allowing guests to encounter Kyushu's craftsmanship, forget the hustle and bustle of daily life, and calm their inner selves.
1. Concept: 'Lighting a Flame in Indigenous Traditions' TOUSUMI will be born in Gion, a place located just a 3-minute walk from Kushida Shrine—the tutelary shrine of Hakata—where the heat fostered by a thousand years of history intersects with the silence drifting through back alleys. Our goal was not merely to create a place for lodging, but a sanctuary that shines a new light on the memories of the land. In respect for the activities in Gion, where craftsmen have honed their skills and festivals have been woven for generations, we have imbued the space with the wish to 'light a flame in indigenous traditions.'
2. Tie-up with Lohb Co., Ltd.: A 'Holistic Stay' to Rejuvenate Body and Mind Our partner since the inception of this project is Lohb Co., Ltd., which develops the skincare brand 'soel' from Kurume, Fukuoka. It all started with an encounter through our e-commerce site, 'MONOTOKI.' The trust built from there led to a deep collaboration that goes beyond merely providing amenities, extending to website production and supervision, and even co-creating the branding of TOUSUMI itself.
Guest rooms are equipped with carefully selected products from 'soel.' In a space where Kyushu's traditional beauty breathes, guests can surrender themselves to high-quality products to gently rejuvenate their body and mind. We offer a calm, fulfilling time for self-care, allowing guests to distance themselves from the noise of daily life and find their true selves.
3. Project Features: A Space Where Tradition and Modernity Resonate 1. A Role as a 'Showroom' Weaving Memories TOUSUMI also functions as a showroom to experience Kyushu's high-quality craftsmanship. The refined grain of Okawa furniture (Mobel), the gentle curves of Morodomi furniture (Hirata Chair Manufacturing), the vessels of Hasami porcelain (Maruhiro), and the fragrance of Yame tea (Nakamura-en). Guests can actually use these items placed in the rooms and touch their exceptional comfort. Furthermore, through the 'Concept Book' provided in the rooms, guests can unravel the stories of the local climate and engage with works by artists associated with Kyushu. We aim to act as a bridge where the passion of craftsmen, conveyed each time the items are touched, reaches travelers from all over the world, casting new light on regional industries.
2. High-Quality Private Space for Rich Conversations With only one room per floor, the 9 guest rooms are spacious, approximately 49.14 square meters, and can accommodate up to 10 people. Respecting guests' free and independent travel, the 'smart, contact-free style' allows you to spend special time with loved ones in private. Moments spent talking without reservation while wrapped in traditional beauty will make travel memories even deeper.
Starting Reservations Prior to the opening on July 1, 2026, we began accepting accommodation reservations on our official website on May 29. Please enjoy a special stay where Fukuoka's tradition and modernity harmonize.
