The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) Museum Store, MoMA Design Store, will host the 'MoMA Mart A Faux-Food Pop-Up' starting Monday, June 1, 2026, across its physical locations and online store. This pop-up features an array of playful yet functional items inspired by food, presented in a supermarket-style installation filled with humor.
MoMA has a long history of collecting artworks that use fake food as a subject. Claes Oldenburg, for instance, had a strong interest in creating sculptures of mock food, producing masterpieces like 'Two Cheeseburgers, with Everything (Dual Hamburgers)' (1962). Other artists such as Ed Ruscha and practitioners of Cubism have also explored food as a recurring theme in their work.
