The Intercity Baseball Tournament, hosted by Mainichi Shimbun and the Japan Amateur Baseball Association, is the pinnacle of amateur baseball held at the Tokyo Dome every summer. The Tokyo secondary qualifiers to determine the tournament participants will take place from June 12 (Fri) to July 7 (Tue). Mainichi Shimbun will provide free live streaming of all 21 matches, from the first round to the final representative decision, on the Intercity Baseball official site within 'Mainichi Shimbun Digital'.
The Intercity Baseball Tournament is a breeding ground for future professional talent. Last year's tournament featured players like pitcher Kazuyuki Takemaru (now with the Giants) and pitcher Ru Kutani (now with the Rakuten Eagles). The Tokyo qualifiers feature high-level competition as companies and teams carry the hopes of their hometowns. With the number of qualifying slots increasing to five this year, fierce battles are expected. The participation of the powerhouse team Segasammy, which will be dissolved after this season, is also a focal point.
The special site will feature mobile-friendly vertical videos showcasing player interviews and the atmosphere of the stands. 'On-demand viewing' will also be available for all 21 matches.
