MarkLines Releases March 2026 Monthly Electric Vehicle (xEV) Sales Report

MarkLines Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Makoto Sakai) has published its March 2026 Electric Vehicle (xEV) Sales Monthly Report, analyzing sales volume and trends in 15 major countries covering approximately 90% of global electric vehicle sales (excluding commercial vehicles, including estimates).

Target Countries: China, USA, Japan, India, Germany, France, Brazil, UK, South Korea, Canada, Italy, Thailand, Norway, Sweden, Finland

Note: xEV includes BEV, PHEV, HEV, and FCEV. Some historical data has been revised. Figures for India represent registrations, and China figures exclude exports.

Global xEV Sales and Powertrain Breakdown (BEV/PHEV/HEV) xEV sales in the 15 targeted countries totaled 1.999 million units in March. This was a 3.5% decrease YoY but a 57.9% increase MoM. The xEV share stood at 34.3%, up 3.4 percentage points from the previous month. Cumulative sales for Jan-Mar reached 4.65 million units, down 7.5% YoY, representing a 32.3% share of total vehicle sales.

By powertrain, March sales were: BEV 979,000 units (16.8% share), PHEV 427,000 units (7.3% share), and HEV 593,000 units (10.2% share).

xEV Sales Trends for Major Manufacturers While Chinese manufacturers increased their volume compared to the previous month, they continued to struggle on a year-on-year basis, with BYD down 31.1% and Geely down 25.0%. In contrast, Toyota, supported by strong HEV performance, saw an 11.5% increase YoY.
