MarkLines Co., Ltd. has released its Monthly Report on electric vehicle (xEV) sales for April 2026, covering 15 major countries that account for approximately 90% of global electric vehicle sales. The covered countries include China, the United States, Japan, India, Germany, France, Brazil, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Canada, Italy, Thailand, Norway, Sweden, and Finland.
Sales of xEVs in April reached 1.776 million units, down 1.6% year-on-year and 12.6% month-on-month. However, the market share for xEVs rose to 36.1%, a 1.2-point increase from the previous month's 34.9%. Cumulative sales from January to April totaled 6.431 million units, down 5.8% year-on-year, with a 33.3% share of total automotive sales.
By powertrain, April sales were 881,000 units for BEV (17.9% share), 396,000 for PHEV (8.1% share), and 499,000 for HEV (10.1% share). Regarding major manufacturers, Chinese automakers continue to struggle, with BYD reporting a 30.6% year-on-year decrease and Geely a 17.5% decrease.
