Nearly half a century has passed since our salon first opened in 1979. The Medical Esthe Association (Representative Director: Makiko Nishio), as the culmination of many years of education in beauty and aesthetics, has established and announced the "New Technical Standards for Medical Esthetics," which will become the industry standard going forward. We look back on the history of evolution from conventional esthetics focused on "relaxation" to "fundamental improvement" based on anatomy and physician supervision, and propose the next generation of professional image that will lead to the advancement of women's social status and economic independence.

The Journey Since 1979 and Evolution to "Medical Esthetics"

The origin of our association dates back to the opening of an esthetic salon in Motomachi, Kobe, in 1979 (Showa 54). Since then, we have produced numerous estheticians since the opening of "Total Beauty College" in 1983.

Throughout our 47-year history, we have constantly grappled with the question, "What constitutes authentic technique?" While trendy techniques and cosmetics are constantly emerging and disappearing, we have concluded that a deep understanding of human anatomy and medical evidence is essential to continue delivering reliable results.

Thus, we have elevated our techniques from mere beauty methods to lymphatic drainage and facial care incorporating physician supervision, establishing the unique field of "medical esthetics" as it is today.

"3 New Standards" for the Future Industry Standard

Our association defines the following three new technical standards that next-generation estheticians should master:

Provision of "Safe and Evidence-Based" Techniques Based on Physician Supervision

We establish as standard only highly safe techniques that are based on anatomical theory and have undergone physician supervision, rather than relying solely on intuition and empirical rules.

Commitment from "Relaxation" to "Fundamental Improvement"

We provide techniques that not only offer temporary relaxation effects but also approach the root causes of customers' physical and mental discomfort, regenerating essential health and beauty.

"Improvement of Social Status" and "Economic Independence" for Estheticians

"Medical Estheticians" with advanced specialized knowledge and skills are indispensable to society. By acquiring a trade, we build an environment where women can achieve lifelong economic independence and work with pride.

Message from Representative Director Makiko Nishio

"Since opening a small salon in Motomachi, Kobe, in 1979, I have been at the forefront of the beauty industry for 47 years. While women's lifestyles have diversified with the times, the desire to 'be beautiful and healthy' and the aspiration to 'acquire specialized skills and become independent' remain unchanged.

Esthetics is now at a major turning point. We will continue to strive for educational activities at schools nationwide to bring smiles to our customers and to strongly support all women aiming for independence, through the dissemination of high-quality medical esthetics incorporating medical knowledge."

Future Developments

Currently, we offer training courses for medical estheticians based on these standards at seven locations nationwide: Ginza, Shinjuku, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka (Umeda), Okayama, and Sapporo. In the future, we will strengthen our free trial seminars at each school and our awareness activities utilizing online platforms so that more people can experience "authentic techniques."

Founded in 1979. With the philosophy of "a trade in hand, healing in the heart" advocated by Representative Nishio, the association has led esthetician training for many years, including the formulation of a model project certified by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare. Particularly noteworthy is the track record of a project commissioned by the Ministry of Justice for 18 years. Through vocational training at Tochigi Prison, they have continuously supported the social reintegration of inmates both technically and mentally. Their reliable technical skills and educational approach that focuses on each individual have earned them deep trust not only in the beauty industry but also from various other fields.
