Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has developed a technology that estimates carbon storage in agricultural soil with high accuracy by combining image analysis and optical measurement technology with a carbon cycle model consisting of a plant 'root biomass model' and a microbial 'organic matter decomposition model'. This technology eliminates the need for large-scale soil sampling and chemical analysis, enabling efficient and low-cost wide-area soil monitoring. It supports the evaluation of farmland-derived carbon storage compatible with GX-ETS scheduled for full-scale operation in FY2026, and contributes to improving agricultural productivity and reducing greenhouse gases.
